PRSA Capital Region to hold Third Annual Empire Awards Competition

Awards honoring excellence and leadership in communications field

Albany, NY – June 9, 2010 – The Public Relations Society of America Capital Region Chapter will host its third annual Empire Awards on Wednesday, November 3, 2010, at Pat’s Barn in the Rensselaer Technology Park in Troy, NY.  As the area's only annual results-based awards program, the Empire Awards recognizes excellence and leadership in the communications field in both profit and nonprofit organizations.

“For our third year, we have moved to an evening cocktail event for a more relaxed atmosphere,” said Andrea Colby, president of the Capital Region Chapter.  “The event will be held the night before our Chapter hosts the Northeast District Conference for the first time.  We’re excited to host the conference and are capitalizing on the chance to have peers from throughout the Northeast attend the awards and see the great work we do in the Capital District.”

Pat’s Barn, in the Rensselaer Technology Park in Troy, is the setting for this year’s event, which will be held from 5:30 to 8 p.m.  “We continue to improve this award program and the Barn is a unique place to celebrate and showcase the exceptional work in our industry,” said Eric Wohlleber, Empire Awards chair and past president of PRSA Capital Region Chapter. “With all the tools available, we have a lot of creative, innovative work that I’m sure will be reflected in the entries.”

This year’s program will recognize superior performance in 10 categories including public relations campaigns, media relations events, public affairs and integrated campaigns, online public relations campaigns, among others. The Empire Awards also singles out two individuals for recognition: an outstanding practitioner who has achieved exceptional success, displayed the highest ethics, and is dedicated to serving the community and our profession; and an outstanding communicator, which honors excellence in the field of communications.
