Arbetter to Emcee 2008 Empire Awards

On November 13, The Public Relations Society of America – Capital Region chapter will hold its inaugural Empire Awards at the Albany Institute of History and Art. In its first year, the organization received 43 applications for this year’s award ceremony and clearly reiterated the PR talent established here in the Capital Region. Hosting duties for this year’s event will be done by WMHT’s Susan Arbetter, better known as one of the regions finest public policy commentators and a contributor to many PRSA media roundtables. Arbetter is a graduate of Boston University.  She has received various awards for her efforts including awards from New York State Broadcasters Association, Public Radio News Directors Incorporated, and the Associated Press.

"I couldn't do my job without the skill, patience and intelligence of the people we are celebrating with the Empire Awards,” said Arbetter.  “They are a largely unseen, but integral part of the region's news and advocacy fabric.  It is so important that we recognize their fine work."

This year’s event will pay homage to a number of categories in the PR industry. From strategic media relation campaigns to annual reports, everything will be covered and nothing left out. In addition, PRSA Capital Region’s Board of Directors will recognize and reward an Outstanding Practitioner and an Outstanding Communicator.

“We have been strongly encouraged by the support we have received for this year’s event,” said PRSA Capital Region President Tom Nardacci. “With the assistance of our sponsors and the board of directors, we have crafted a unique awards program aimed at showcasing the work of our fellow PR practitioners and celebrating our industry in the region.”

For more information on this year’s awards or for general information on your local chapter of PRSA, go to www.prsacapitalregion.com. Tickets for this year’s event are $35 for PRSA members and $40 for non-members. Sponsors for this year’s Empire Awards are: Zone 5 – Platinum Sponsor, Gramercy Communication – Silver Sponsor, Baker Public Relations - Silver Sponsor and Shorey Public Relations – Bronze Sponsor.

We look forward to seeing you at this year’s event and making this one of the highlights in our industry for years to come.
